In Northwest Syria, 3.3 million people need humanitarian aid. 65% of them are internally displaced, with many having faced displacement up to three-time. Over than 20,000 children under the age of 5 years are malnourished. The children IDPs who are displaced are facing protection and poverty. The poor families don't have the financial capacity to purchase the needed basic newborn items such as; Baby shampoo, Wet tissues, Plastic scaled cups, White underwear for infants, 2 sets of clothes. Etc.

IDA is providing the needed health consultation and drug care for babies and mothers through its center. The hospital's health staff will provide 2 kits for each new baby born in IDA's hospitals. Onekit as clothes and hygiene items, and the second kit as feeding tools in case of the pediatrician ordered to shift the baby to a Breast Milk substitute if needed. These 2 kits and the health care provided by IDA to Baby and Mothers will give the required protection for newborn babies and infant

Long-Term Impact

Data coming from nutrition facilities indicate that the rate of chronic malnutrition (stunting) among children under 5 years of age in northwestern Syria is currently estimated at 34% during the year 2020. Children with stunting and wasting have a 12-fold increased risk of mortality compared to healthy children. The poverty rate in Syria overall is above 90%. Supporting the families with new babies with after-delivery kits will help protect the health and the future of these babies.
