Distributing Essential Winter Supplies
For people with disabilities in Gaza, the approaching winter brings more than cold weather; it brings another season of uncertainty for families already coping with displacement, inadequate shelter, and limited access to necessities. For someone living with a disability, a dry place to sleep, a warm blanket, or an accessible bathroom can make an enormous difference. Over the past months, our team has continued working with local partners to respond to these often-overlooked needs, knowing that even small acts of support can help restore a sense of safety and dignity.
In collaboration with the Stars of Hope Association for Persons with Disabilities, which generously provided the supplies, our team coordinated the distribution of 100 winter assistance packages, including tarpaulins and blankets, to 100 people with hearing and sensory disabilities at Basmat Amal Camp. These simple but essential items offer an important layer of protection as temperatures drop. One beneficiary described how timely this assistance was for her family:
"The tarpaulins arrived just when we needed them most. Our tents had become worn and damaged over the summer, and as temperatures began to drop, the cold started seeping inside. Our children were already feeling the cold. These tarpaulins will help us protect them from the coming winter and give us a greater sense of safety."

Yet the needs extend far beyond winter supplies. We are preparing to support another 100 people with disabilities with winter clothing and essential hygiene kits. At the same time, our team is assessing the needs of a center serving people with disabilities in Gaza City, where toilets, sanitation facilities, and accessibility infrastructure require rehabilitation. Once the assessment is completed, we plan to allocate part of the donations already received through GlobalGiving to support these essential improvements. Continued donor support will help us address additional needs, reach more vulnerable individuals, and make these facilities safer and more accessible. For someone with limited mobility, an accessible bathroom or a safe pathway is not simply a building improvement; it is an opportunity for greater independence, safety, and dignity.
Despite the enormous challenges of working in Gaza, we remain committed to reaching people with disabilities whose needs are too often overlooked. To everyone who has stood with Gaza's disability community, thank you for reminding these families that they have not been forgotten. As winter approaches and needs continue to grow, your continued support can help us reach more people, remove more barriers, and bring comfort, safety, and hope to those who need it most.
