Launched in 2012, ABS-CBN-Programa Genio (PG) works in cooperation with the school divisions of the Department of Education in the Philippines in empowering the youth through education with a heart. Our team is specifically focused on strengthening senior high school programs in the Philippines. Included in Programa Genio's scope is the Alternative Learning System of the Department of Education which provides skills and livelihood training for youth and adults.
The increasing numbers of out-of-school-youth and dropouts continue to be key issues faced by the Philippine education system. Labor force participation of the country also remains low compared to other countries in Asia. Many Filipinos, especially those from marginalized and underserved groups, don't get the chance to enter or finish formal basic education for a variety of reasons. Traditional education systems struggle to accommodate diverse learning needs, leading to a high number of dropouts
Programa Genio provides opportunities for out-of-school youth and adult learners to develop basic and functional literacy skills and to access equivalent pathways to complete basic education. We also provide intensive community-based literacy training for illiterate out-of-school youth and adults from the poorest segment of society with educational programs.
