Challenge

The community evacuated in shelter camps spread across 19 points around three sub-districts, including Pronojiwo. In the locations, they are temporarily living in public buildings such as schools, village halls, and worship places. Besides eruptions with huge and fast ash clouds, they faced a tense situation with a lack of electricity and volcanic ash after taking shelter. In that darkness, some of them were isolated due to cold lava floods, which closed access to distribution and evacuation.

Solution

With this project, the families can meet their basic needs in a very limited situation in evacuation points. The basic needs such as fresh food, clean water, sanitary kits, shelter equipment, and PPEs are the ones they urgently need in this emergency situation. Meanwhile, our partner KUN Humanity System will also support them with the health services they need at evacuation points.

Long-Term Impact

Living in evacuation tents with very crowded people will potentially put the community in danger given the Covid-19 pandemic is still not over yet. Hence, supporting them with shelter equipment and PPEs will reduce the risk of getting contracted with the coronavirus in a crowded place.
