Since its last eruption 11 years ago, Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), has once again disrupted the lives of surrounding communities. On December 17, 2023, the volcano's status was raised to Alert (Level II). Since then, a series of eruptions continued, leading to an upgrade in status to Alert (Level III) on January 1, 2024, and reaching Alert (Level IV) on January 9, 2024. This eruption not only poses direct threats from volcanic materials and pyroclastic flows but also has serious impacts on the daily lives of the people, especially in the districts of Wulanggitang, Ile Bura, and West Solor.
To support the post-eruption recovery of Mount Lewotobi and ensure the basic household needs of affected families returning from evacuation centers are met, IDEP conducted the distribution of Family Buckets containing food and sanitation supplies. This distribution was prioritized for residents living in Disaster-Prone Areas Level I (KRB). The distribution in Dulipali Village, Ile Bura District, took place on February 10, 2024. Meanwhile, in Klatanlo Village, Wulanggitang District, distribution activities were carried out on February 17, 2024.
In addition to distribution activities, disaster response and recovery efforts also targeted preschool children and Learning Groups (KoBer) through child-friendly educational activities. These activities were coordinated with preschools and KoBer groups in Dulipali and Klatanlo villages. During these activities, children were encouraged to play and learn together about disaster preparedness, the importance of personal hygiene, and nutritious food intake.
We sincerely thank our donors for their invaluable support, which has enabled us to reach a significant milestone in assisting Klatanlo and Dulipali communities through the crisis they are facing.
