We are currently working with the local community of Abua to build Abua Primary School. Abua Primary School is located in a remote area, 29 km south of Yei town. We identified the project as the priority because of the urgent need for classrooms in the community. The current classrooms, built from wood and grass-thatched, have been destroyed by termites, and as a result, children cannot learn effectively, especially during rainy or hot weather. The main goal of supporting the construction of Abua Primary School is to increase access to quality education for children in the Abua rural community.
We have devised an approach in which the local community is fully engaged right from the start of the project, and they are encouraged to take responsibility and own the project. Therefore, the local community responded positively and is willing to contribute local materials such as bricks, sand, gravel, and timber that will be used to construct the classrooms.
In December last year, the community started laying the bricks and finished in February 2025. The local community of Abua is now working on collecting the remaining building materials, such as river sand, gravel, and timber.
Funding Goal: $14,350. Amount raised: $100. Remaining: $14,250.
The $100 raised through the GlobalGiving platform ($85 disbursed) will be used to purchase four (4) Iron Sheets and two (2) kilograms of nails. We are so grateful for every donation. With your support, we will build Abua Primary School to create a conducive learning space for underprivileged children in and around the Abua community.
The construction of the school will start once all the local materials have been transported to the school site. We are also looking for ways to finance the transportation of the local materials to the construction site.
