Challenge

Two-thirds of high-school graduates in the Colombian Caribbean Coast do not have access to college education. The low number of college-educated individuals contributes to a growing decrement of living standards, lack of job opportunities, absence of committed community leadership, which exacerbate poverty, and stunts development. Thereby, there is a missed opportunity to improve the well-being and competitiveness of the community that can be seized through enabling access to education.

Solution

This project will increase the coverage of quality education by strengthening the scholarship program. In accordance with the fundraising initiative, it will provide free undergraduate and language tuition, and financial aid in food, transportation and study materials for scholars. It will also offer comprehensive academic support, complementary programs and a skilled workforce to promote an equitable and inclusive institutional environment that enables scholars complete their studies.

Long-Term Impact

This project aims to educate underserved high-school students from the Colombian Caribbean Coast. Enabling access to education is the first step out of poverty and toward increasing living standards. To improve poverty and income inequality indicators, it is important to reduce educational gaps by investing in human capital. Educating the next generation of leaders will ensure social mobility, gender and social equity, and ultimately, economic growth.
