In parts of Zimbabwe, mining activity can contaminate water with harmful metals like lead and cadmium. Many communities do not have easy ways to test their water.
Action10 is supporting a solution with Dr Donald Tapfuma, a researcher from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Zimbabwe, that helps people test water directly in their communities.
The solution combines a simple testing tool and digital system that can:
Detect lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) in water
Show results quickly and clearly
Map contaminated areas
Help guide where clean water systems are needed most
This means communities don’t have to wait for lab tests, they can understand their water quality and act faster.
