This project rescues and rehabilitates wild animals displaced, injured, or orphaned by the devastating annual floods in Kaziranga National Park, Assam. Every year as floodwaters rise, countless animals are driven from their habitats, straying into human settlements or becoming stranded. WTI's centre, CWRC, provides critical veterinary care and rehabilitation support - both short-term and long-term - to these distressed animals before returning them to the wild.
Kaziranga in Assam, a UNESCO World Heritage site, was strategically chosen for CWRC due to its rich floodplain ecosystem, which supports diverse species, including the greater one-horned rhinoceros, Asian elephant, and wild buffalo, among others. However, the annual floods pose a serious conservation challenge to the region's biodiversity. Many animals are injured and displaced, needing short-term care, while orphaned and stranded young ones require long-term rehabilitation efforts.
WTI's CWRC and MVS units, managed by a dedicated team of veterinarians and animal keepers, respond to wildlife emergencies during the floods, conducting rescues and providing medical care across the park. Animals requiring short-term interventions are either treated on-site or transported to CWRC for care. Orphaned young ones receive long-term rehabilitation support after attempts to reunite them with their families fail. The eventual aim is to return them to their true home in the wild.
By supporting WTI's flood rescue operations in Kaziranga, you directly contribute to the conservation of India's iconic wildlife. Your donation ensures that our rescue and rehabilitation efforts continue annually, protecting thousands of animals. To date, CWRC has managed 4,600 animal cases, successfully releasing 60% back into their natural habitats, giving them a second chance at life and keeping them #ForeverWild.
