Roots Reborn continues to strengthen immigrant and migrant rights on Maui through culturally grounded legal education, community outreach, and access to essential services. Our bilingual and bicultural team remains committed to ensuring that historically underserved families can live and work with safety, dignity, and confidence navigating complex systems.
A core component of this work has been our monthly Know Your Rights trainings, which provide practical, accessible information on legal protections, including interactions with law enforcement and immigration authorities, workplace rights, and access to services. These sessions are culturally relevant, language-accessible, and grounded in real-life scenarios so participants leave with actionable knowledge. To expand our reach, we also hosted a Train-the-Trainer workshop, equipping trusted community leaders to facilitate these trainings within their own networks. In partnership with Kaiser Permanente, we launched workshops for the Community Health Coverage Program, helping participants better understand and maximize their health benefits, including preventive care and navigating the healthcare system.
Beyond workshops, we continue to provide individualized community care navigation, working closely with individuals and families to address their unique needs. This includes connecting community members to critical resources and providing ongoing disaster case management support to help families recover and stabilize. We have also been developing the infrastructure for Pacifika, a new initiative centered on engaging the COFA community through a culturally relevant softball tournament. Participants are required to attend trainings on financial literacy, workers’ rights, and Know Your Rights, creating an accessible and community-driven pathway to education.
Through these efforts, we continue to build community knowledge, strengthen local leadership, and expand access to critical services for immigrant and migrant families across Maui.
