Strengthening HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention Among Youth in Uganda

HIV/AIDS continues to pose a significant public health challenge in Uganda, particularly among youth who often lack access to vital information and resources. In response, PLANE Uganda received $100 this quarter, which was strategically utilized to amplify awareness campaigns focused on prevention and stigma reduction.

This quarter, PLANE empowered young people and the broader community by providing essential knowledge, resources, and life skills aimed at curbing the spread of HIV/AIDS. Two radio talk shows were conducted, effectively reaching a large audience and disseminating crucial information about prevention methods. This approach marked a shift from previous quarters, where direct outreach in schools and communities was more prevalent.

Two pivotal leaders and stakeholders’ engagement meetings were held with Fort Portal city leaders, where discussions centered on collaborative strategies to reach vulnerable populations, particularly adolescents and women. City Health Educator highlighted the alarming prevalence of HIV among youth aged 15-29, underscoring the urgency for enhanced sexual education in schools and community dialogues.

The meeting concluded with actionable resolutions, including the need for uniform communication messages for stakeholders and increased public sensitization through radio and community engagement. PLANE’s initiatives, including interactive workshops and peer education programs, aim to provide comprehensive education on HIV transmission, prevention, and treatment, while also advocating for stigma reduction.

We extend our gratitude to GlobalGiving and our esteemed donors for their invaluable support, which enables us to continue our mission of promoting health and well-being in our communities.
