Girls Education Mission International (GEM) is an award-winning organization that focuses on girls' education and women's empowerment. One of the most important skills a girl can have is confidence but unfortunately, alarming number of women have admitted that they lack self-esteem. Mentoring can help increase self-awareness which results in girls to realize their potential, therefore increasing confidence.
GEM will design, implement, and evaluate a life skills and leadership project called "I Am Possible." The project will focus on girls between the ages of 10 and 19 in Nigeria and Sierra leone. Its goals are to increase graduation rates among vulnerable girls and promote social change within communities. Through a combination of seminars and small group tutorials, girls will be recruited and trained as "Girl Peer Mentors and Advocates."
Through this mentorship project, girls will learn about the importance of continuing their education and will develop skills to become agents of change in their communities through advocacy. In turn, these girls serve as examples for younger generations of girls, creating a ripple effect and long-lasting impact.
