Support Girl’s Digital Education in Rural Nigeria Project Report – 2 (2025).
Introduction:
As a follow-up to “Catch Them Young” on Digital Literacy skills, Environmental and Rural Mediation Centre (ENVIRUMEDIC) has resulted to provision of physical infrastructure by setting-up an ICT centre in Emonu-Orogun.
Aim and Objectives:
This intervention is aimed at setting-up an ICT Centre for hand on deck experience with provision of computer sets and installation of solar powered system to train the younger generation especially children in rural public schools with the mindset of Data Science, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence; Training them on the proposed National Computer Based Test in Secondary School Examinations and enhance their skills with computer knowledge as they are growing.
Interventions:
From the month of May – August 2025, ENVIRUMEDIC has set-up an ICT Centre with installation of five (5) Computer sets, a printer, 5 Rims of Paper, 4 UPS, 2 Ceiling Fans, Renovation of the Building, Security protection and Solar Power System to supply continuous electricity to the centre 15 sets of Chairs and Tables. This project has been completed and handed over to the Emonu-Orogun for proper ownership and control.
During the handover ceremony, Children were sensitized and mindset changed towards embracing Artificial Intelligence, parents and teachers also sensitized to further push for digital literacy inclusion and community members are sensitized to support digital literacy program in their various communities.
Challenges:
ENVIRUMEDIC digital literacy project has not started generating supports so going to this rural communities requires transportation cost. The project requires computer tablets to show as model but non is available yet.
Solutions:
This ICT Centre set-up was supported by ActionAid Nigeria Local Rights Programme. The project requires more funds and other supports like computers to drive the process further and reach out to more communities in Nigeria.
Conclusion:
The project brought happiness, joy and acceptance in Emonu-Orogun community. This is in response to the Federal Government plans to implement the National CBT Examinations on WAEC, NECO and other examinations. This is a project to really “Catch Them Young” and “Leave No One Behind’.
