GEC Update on The Changemakers Programming

By Lauren Fine | Co-Founder and GEC Board Member

Dear Valued Donors,

We are thrilled to share the latest highlights from our Changemaker Program, where students are actively learning to become future leaders and positive influencers in their communities. We would like to share our most recent ChangeMaker event, in which our GEC students participated in a community clean-up exercise in the Legon area of Accra, focusing on environmental awareness and responsibility.

Students enthusiastically engaged in tidying the community in preparation for the upcoming Homowo festival, a significant cultural event in Accra. This hands-on experience not only helped to beautify the area but also instilled a sense of civic duty and environmental stewardship in our students. Their dedication attracted attention from local leaders and residents, many of whom joined in to support the cause, underscoring the impact of our students’ actions.

Key moments from the day included: Community Engagement: Our students, alongside local volunteers, collected several bags of waste, contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment. Student Discussions: The activity concluded with a roundtable discussion led by our program manager, Derrick. The conversation emphasized the importance of taking responsibility for one’s environment, with GEC student Bright suggesting that they replicate the clean-up in their own neighborhoods.

The energy and initiative shown by our students reaffirm our mission to equip them with the tools and mindset needed for social change. This event was a wonderful step in nurturing their leadership potential and commitment to their communities.

Thank you for your continued support. Your contributions enable us to create meaningful experiences like these, helping our students grow into community leaders.

In partnership,

The GEC Team and Board
