Dear GEC Supporters,
One of the greatest joys each year is welcoming a new class of scholars into the Ghana Educational Collaborative family. This May, we celebrated an exciting milestone as five exceptional students officially joined GEC through our annual ChangeMaker recruitment and induction process.
Our selection process is intentionally rigorous. This year, sixteen highly recommended Grade 6 students completed aptitude assessments, interviews, and leadership evaluations. After multiple rounds of review, home visits, and conversations with their families, five remarkable students were selected to begin their GEC journey.
Home visits are one of the most meaningful parts of our process. They allow us to build relationships with families, better understand each student's environment, and ensure that parents and caregivers become true partners in their child's educational journey. Every family welcomed us with excitement and expressed their commitment to supporting their student's future.
Following the selection process, our newest scholars were officially welcomed during our annual ChangeMaker Induction Ceremony. Alumni, program managers, and board members shared stories of perseverance and encouraged the students to embrace GEC's values of leadership, integrity, and service.
One of the highlights of the day was our mentor matching ceremony, where each new scholar was paired with an older student who will provide encouragement and guidance throughout the coming years. This tradition reflects one of the things that makes GEC unique: students who once entered the program as sixth graders now return as mentors, alumni, and leaders, investing in the next generation.
As our newest scholars took their oath to become part of the GEC family, we were reminded that this is about much more than scholarships. It is about building a community where young people are challenged, supported, and empowered to become leaders in their schools, families, and communities.
Thank you for believing in these students before they fully believe in themselves. Because of your generosity, five more young changemakers are beginning a journey that will shape not only their own futures, but the lives of those around them.
With gratitude,
The GEC Team
