At the request of its intervention communities, the NGO CAV proposes to implement a program to support farmers in improving the traditional chicken farming system. This project aims to improve the traditional farming system by introducing high-performance breeders. This project will strengthen traditional chicken farming activities for 5 farmers through the introduction of high-performance breeders in order to make the activity more economically profitable. It will improve living conditions.
In Togo, local chicken meat is highly prized, but its farming faces multiple constraints, mainly related to health, nutrition, and genetics. Production falls short of the ever-growing demand. This low production is due to a lack of professionalism and, above all, organization among stakeholders in the sector, whose activities are limited to family production.
To improve the sector's economic profitability, 1. Mastery of techniques, production costs, and products adapted to market needs is required. 2. Provide technicians and producers with a package of technologies that will increase the production and profitability of local chicken farms. 3. Make poultry production semi-professional in communities. 4. Encourage farmers to respect simple breeding techniques. 5. Strengthen producers in the proper management of their activities.
Traditional poultry farming plays a key role in the pursuit of self-sufficiency and food security. It contributes to the livelihoods of rural populations on religious, social, and cultural levels.
