In Japan, There are about 34,000 children who are forced to leave their homes due to neglect, abuse, or the inability of a parent to provide financial support to their children. These children are housed in institutions, typically called children`s homes. Hands On Tokyo hopes to be able to assess and deliver meaningful services and resources for children`s homes now and for many years to come
Most children who are moved into institutions are gifted with exceptional care givers, who invest a great deal of time and effort to make sure the children are taken care of. However the staff are often overwhelmed by a limited budget they receive from the government and the lack of staff at homes. Staff only have enough time to think about their immediate needs and not long term needs.
The goal of this project is to connect children`s homes to people who have resources and funding to help staff deal with immediate challenges and long term ones as well. A children`s home has requested aid and funding to make a new storage system and clean the living quarters of children. While simple, it is an essential for creating a safe, clean environment for the children to live in, as well as free up space for new inhabitants or activities held at the children`s home.
With your help, we will be able to create a cleaner living and playing environment for children. Furthermore, we will perform tasks the children`s homes staff do not necessarily have time to do. Ultimately staff will be able to dedicate more time to the children.
