We are making place for play while supporting the management of Koganehama Chibikko Hiroba (Koganehama Kid’s Playground), which is conducted by local residents and a volunteer group. Up to the present, we have made several play tools by utilizing wood with salt damage, debris of the tsunami, rusted nails or things being there like that. It is the place which is changed continuously.
On that day, we moved the earthen pipe which was donated in the beginning of this project. It is play equipment of memories because a lot of children played with it until then. We had no idea how heavy it was, but we thought how to move, and 6 or 7 adults rolled it after lifting it up by using the principles of lever. Nevertheless, it was too heavy to change the direction. We tried to do it with many ideas, but we couldn’t. Then, a member of the Self-Defense Forces told us how to change the direction of a big log by using rope. On the following day, we tried the method. If we have used a heavy machine, we could have done it quicker and easier. However, it was worth doing that by ourselves without depending on such machinery, because the process is the precious in order to build a social community. On this day, many residents joined this activity. We worked together, and smiled with each other.
