Unlocking Potential of People to Drive Their Own Development
The Angus Gillis Foundation is working with emergent leadership that has been identified through the Self-Help Groups (SHG) process. Understanding that the community is an intricate system and that development already exists in a community, AGF recognizes its role to accelerate the process by unlocking the potential of people to drive their own development.
Self-Help Groups play a crucial role in the process of shifting communities from poor health and hopelessness to increased power, well-being and self sufficiency. Thank you for investing in this important work!
National Self Help Group of the Year
Because AGF has had much success with initiating SHG’s in rural South Africa, Sinamandla (a National Organization) has recognized the Masivuye Woman’s group in the rural village of Glenmore, South Africa by awarding them the National Self Help Group (SHG of the Year!
This group was established with the help of the Angus Gillis Foundation and has done well in a number of areas, e.g. building up their funds by saving weekly and then establishing a productive food garden.
The judges were particularly impressed by the groups’ commitment and service to children. Earlier this year they established a successful "Safe Park" that runs daily for children to have a safe, educational place to play and learn.
Moreover, sixteen women have been trained in Early Childhood Development by the AGF and run a stimulating program for 42 young children daily, giving more opportunities to develop and grow.
This successful work is made possible through your generous donations - thank you!
Every single donation helps AGF fulfill its mission to further promote more outstanding Self-Help Groups in rural communities such as Glenmore!
