By Kartya | Manikaji School Headmaster

We wanted to start by telling you about our big day, that is our annual Independence Day celebration on August 17, and your support made it extra special. From July to August, our students practiced a lot, and guess what? They did awesome! In physical competition, the Manikaji school got third place in the Sarong Relay Race, second place in the Rice VS Green Bean, and first place in the English Games. And our talented students entertained everyone with a performance of Agriculture drama collaborated with Genjek (Balinese traditional music art), modern dance, and their melodious songs.

Our students are also doing cool stuff outside of class our EMpower-sponsored extracurricular programs. They not only learn about careers and self-exploration but also actively engage in presentations and campaigns, especially about gender equality and reducing child marriage, to other schools in our region, government departments and national women’s organisations! Such amazing skills they developed from this program. Even in sports competitions, both girls and boys are playing together in volley ball and futsal, showing everyone's great at it.

I want to introduce you to Sutami, an exceptional 10th-grade girl who is super active and motivated. She is the general secretary of the student council and wants to be a journalist. Sutami also spearheads a campaign for treating everyone equally, making posters to share her ideas. Besides school stuff, she inspires other students in our expert-led hands-on learning about organic dry land permaculture and agroforestry and growing her own veggies to help her family.

We just wanted to say a big thank you for making all of this happen. Your help not only made the events awesome but also made our students really happy and proud. We are super grateful and excited about doing more cool things with your support.
