ActionAid is responding to an earthquake in Nepal that has left hundreds of people dead and injured- mostly women and children. The 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck 2 districts of Karnali province in western Nepal in November 2023. More than 200,000 people have been affected, with the hardest-hit area being Jajarkot. This project will fund immediate relief, including medical care and essential supplies. A gift of any amount will enable us to support relief efforts like this around the world.
After an earthquake struck in western Nepal, damaging houses in two districts of Karnali Province, families have nowhere to stay and are now living outdoors. ActionAid is concerned about: the lack of shelter for everyone as winter has just started, an increased risk of violence against women, lack of food, water, sanitation and hygiene facilities, and medical supplies. Although the earthquake has happened in a hard to reach, mountainous area, we are working to get aid to the most affected.
In partnership with a local partner, ActionAid Nepal will launch an emergency response to help individuals affected by the earthquake in Jajarkot district. The priority is women's protection services, especially for pregnant women and lactating mothers. Families who are out in the cold will also be receiving winterization kits and shelter.
ActionAid has worked in Nepal since 1982, fighting poverty and exclusion by empowering communities to claim their rights. This specific emergency response will support nearly 10,000 individuals affected by the earthquake through financial assistance to the families of the deceased and plans to restore damaged infrastructure, protect livelihoods, and secure livestock. ActionAid will also provide psychosocial support to families that are coping with the trauma that comes with such disaster.
