Young girls receiving sanitary pads
Young girls receiving sanitary pads

Activity 1: Provision of Sanitary Towels.

The pandemic has affected mostly girls from the slums most of whom used to depend on the sanitary towels distributed to schools by the government and other well-wishers. The closure of schools and colleges has meant that these girls would no longer receive free pads in various schools. Through SAI’s support, DADREG was able to distribute sanitary towels to 400 girls coming from very disadvantaged families.

Activity 2: Purchase of Masks

Masks wearing has helped in reducing the infection of the coronavirus, especially in places like Dandora that have recorded a low rate of infection. Through SAI’s support, 1,800 masks were bought to be distributed to schools. DADREG had hoped the schools would have been opened in September to enable us to supply the masks to the neediest families. Since the schools have been closed until 2021, DADREG intends to distribute the masks to children who come to have some lessons at DADREG Community Development Centre. The majority of young girls who come to the Centre are young girls who are in danger of getting pregnant without support and mentorship. The masks and availability of water and soaps will go a long way in protecting the young children coming for the mentorship program at DADREG Community Development Centre.
