2025 Q1 GlobalGiving Report – Child Safe Schools Project

About the Project

  • The Child Safe Schools Project, under the Child Safe Philippines Campaign of Bantay Bata 163, aims to capacitate schools in creating and implementing localized child protection policies and programs. This is primarily anchored on national level Child Protection Policy of the Department of Education (DO No. 40 s. of 2012), and is geared towards strengthening the capacity of school-based Child Protection Committees to establish and implement preventive programs, protocols, referral pathways, and response mechanisms for child protection concerns.

  • In 2024, Bantay Bata 163 scaled up the project and partnered with DepEd Schools Division Office of Oriental Mindoro to train all 27 public schools in the Municipality of Pola, Oriental Mindoro. This ensures that all children in Pola – at least those in schools – will have easier and increased access to child protection mechanisms. From August to September 2024, the school partners underwent a series of rigorous training, workshop, and revisions to their localized child protection policies and programs.

Project Accomplishments

  • Five high school partners participated in the initial Monitoring and Evaluation of their Child Safe Schools Project.
  • All five schools have presented the current progress of their project implementation. Most notably, the schools have already cascaded their projects to relevant stakeholders, and have started incorporating child protection in their existing programs and/or activities, such as homeroom or PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) meetings, children’s month celebrations, and student orientations.

  • From November 2024 to February 2025, all 27 school partners (100%) have separately launched their Child Safe Schools Projects. During the launching activities, schools have introduced their newly approved policies and programs on child protection to their key stakeholders, including but not limited to students, parents, teachers, barangay councils, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, Municipal Police Station, and the Municipal LGU.

Summary of Total Reach

  • A total of 7,731 children and 405 school personnel in Pola, Oriental Mindoro continues to benefit in the localized child protection policies of their schools.
