This project is geared towards empowering women on income generating initiatives to have a society that a mother doesn't have to rely with husband on daily needs. The biggest problem in Kenya Rural areas is marginalized women due to the habit is sitting and waiting husbands to provide their basic needs leading to increased cases of domestic violence, broken marriages, children running to streets and girl child early marriages.
Kakamega County is located in Western region of Kenya. The major source of income is agriculture but due to high population growth land resource has become limited to the extent that residents cannot produce enough for daily subsistence. As a result the poverty level is rising at an alarming rate. The most vulnerable group is women and children. This is evident with the trend the number of street children is rising and the increase of girls dropping school due to early pregnancies or marriages.
This project intends to empower women by providing additional livelihood options through income generating initiatives that will make them self reliant. Further, value addition will enable them increase production beyond subsistence to help the women earn income from what they do on daily basis. The mentorship project is aimed at building the confidence of the girl child and let her realize that she has a future to care for.
The project will help women to increase their level of income lowering poverty level for improved livelihood. project will lead to reduction of early pregnancies and marriages
