This project supports FAVL's library in Bereba, a village in Burkina Faso, W. Africa. Your support helps acquire new books, maintain the facility, enable activities, and provide the librarian's salary
Burkina Faso has one of the lowest literacy rates in the world. The problem is most acute at the village level, where access to books and educational resources are incredibly limited. Despite efforts by the government to increase children's attendance in schools, drop out and illiteracy rates remain high. This is in large part due to lack of materials and proper study space.
Bereba's library provides villagers--children, students, men, women and elderly-- a comfortable and educational environment to access materials and information. The availability of a library offers villagers a greater opportunity to achieve success.
Bereba's library has been up and running since 2001. The library has not only helped villagers increase their reading levels but also their knowledge in areas such as development, economic growth, health, education, agriculture and nutrition.
