Lawyers for Human Rights has been providing free legal services to individuals & communities in South Africa for 40 years. Celebrate our 40 year anniversary with us by donating to ensure we can continue to facilitate access to justice through legal advice and representation, and the development of young black lawyers from the communities we serve. Support LHR to bridge the gap between rights and reality, to Make Rights Real.
Access to justice is a human right as well as the key to protecting all other rights. Unfortunately, a majority of people living in South Africa cannot afford legal representation to protect their rights. Without actual access one's rights, having human rights is an empty promise. Because access to justice is largely dependent on the individuals ability to afford legal fees, the Constitution becomes accessible only to the rich. Human rights are not a reality formany living in South Africa.
Lawyers for Human Rights is an independent human rights organisation with a 40year track record of human rights activism & public interest litigation in South Africa. LHR uses the law as a positive instrument for change. To this end, it provides free legal services to vulnerable, marginalised and indigent individuals & communities, both non-national and South African, who are victims of unlawful infringements of their constitutional rights. LHR reaches approximately 15 000 individuals annually.
