This project will support 700 vulnerable women to access gender-responsive justice and life-changing support. Through holistic legal aid services, women will receive assistance to resolve cases related to domestic violence, land rights, and other gender-based violations. At the same time, psychosocial counseling will help survivors heal from trauma and regain confidence. Economic and social empowerment opportunities will help women rebuild sustainable livelihoods and provide for their families.
Across Uganda, countless women endure domestic and sexual violence yet remain trapped in silence. Deep-rooted structural, cultural, and economic barriers, stigma and distance from legal services make justice almost impossible to reach. Many cant afford transport, legal representation, or the time required to pursue cases, forcing them to abandon their fight for justice and remain in cycles of abuse, poverty, and fear, unable to claim their rights, protect their children, or rebuild their lives.
Through the project, FIDA Uganda will provide free, gender-responsive legal aid to vulnerable women experiencing sexual, gender-based, and domestic violence. Our lawyers and trained community volunteers will help survivors pursue justice through courts and alternative dispute resolution. We will also equip women with legal knowledge, training, and livelihood support to strengthen their economic independence, resilience, and ability to protect their rights.
This project will empower 700 vulnerable rural women to access justice, claim their rights, and break cycles of violence and poverty. By strengthening their legal awareness, confidence, and economic resilience, women will be better able to protect themselves, support their children, and advocate for gender equality, creating lasting change for families and communities across Uganda.
