Holistic education holds the key to opening up a world of opportunities. And that’s why, BCT High School’s rural-oriented model of education focuses on value-building and skill-building along with academics, ensuring that students are not just academically strong, but also wise to the world.

With this core focus in mind, the past few months have been exciting, as many initiatives and various developments took place. Focusing on building health, wisdom and heritage, we share with you the gist of all that happened and how thankful we are to all those who played a part in making these developments possible.

Health is happiness

Starting 18th September, BCT entered into a collaboration with Feeding India, an organization dedicated to addressing hunger and malnutrition via large scale systemic interventions and providing essential food aid to underserved communities. Under this program, students of the BCT Residential High school are now receiving nutritious and delicious food. With sweet beginnings marked with the making of milk payasam, students are now getting nutritious meals that includes milk, sesame & ground nut laddos, puris, nutritious khichadi & fruits every day. With this Hunger-free India movement, the mission to make our future generations healthy & prosperous has become a visible and viable goal.

New students amidst us

With June 12 marking the start of the new academic year, new admissions were in progress. To enable more awareness about the benefits of the BCT Residential Model High school, teachers visited various villages and spread the word. As a result, 47 new students, including both boys and girls, joined the school, after writing an admission test. This takes the total strength of school students to 142. With the school providing opportunities to students who need them the most, it empowers them to shine in various fields.

Learning from the experts

Since the past few months, students of BCT Residential High School have also been benefitting from the expertise of guest lecturers. Spoken English classes were held by Mr. Sachin, a Navy Govt. Employee, who conducts these classes on the weekends. Additionally, BCT TMF SMART Dwarakanagar Domain Trainer, Mrs. Bhavani, conducted a story-writing session for students of grade 9 & 10. The school also welcomed Mrs. Tanuja, who joined as a teacher for Agriculture education.

Visitors to campus

From subject experts to students, visitors to campus teach us a lot. Sharing their experiences in the past few months were quite a few minds. Sri Nithin Desai, Head of Agastya International Foundation, a body that promotes science through interactive means for the underprivileged, visited BCT Residential High School. He interacted with the school staff and students. Other visitors that infused new energies were students and trainers of the BCT TMF SMART centers, who made an exposure visit to the school campus. These visits enable interactions between students of the school and youth from the cities, and encourage a discussion between the two.

Acdemics, song and dance

Formative and self assessments were held for students to enable them learn subjects better. Also students of class 9 along with their teacher Mr. Sachin made a new 4WD QuadBot Robot car. This exercise taught them the practical aspects of working together as a team to achieve results.Hand in hand with the academics werevocational skill learnings. Expert trainer Mr. Satish, Kora Initiative, visited the school and observed the charkha-spinning skills of the students. He offered them guidance on improving their skill for finer yarn. Then, there were folk-dance lessons, which students took up with new vigour. They were assigned into new groups for folk arts, and also performed during the festival of Lalitha Devi at Dimili village. Students also showcased various folk-art programs for the visitors to campus.

Celebration time

With 15th August marking Independence Day, students celebrated with a vibrant cultural display that commenced with hoisting the flag. Sri B Sri Ram Murty, Secretary BCT, joined the celebrations. 5th September marked Teachers Day, an event where our very talented 10th graders conducted games for the teachers and awarded prizes to the best participants. On the occasion of Vinayaka Chavithi on 7th September, prayers were offered at the Sri Dwimukha Kalyana Vinayaka temple.

With all this and more marking the past few months, we are excited to see our children grow and develop into smart, confident and able citizens, who are capable of not just charting their future, but also the future of their communities.
