Hello dear reader,
Scenically situated at the base of verdant hills, the BCT Residential High school continues to provide greater opportunities and widen the scope of relevant education for rural students. Having understood that the urban standard model of education cannot be simply ‘copied and pasted’ into the rural scenario, and recognizing the need to empower rural students such that they can contribute to the growth of their communities and country, has been our focus. Activities of the past few months that kept us busy are as below.
Academic impetus
Here, equal impetus is given to academics, vocational skills and personality development as high-quality education is provided to financially deprived rural children. In the last couple of months our students took up formative assessment examinations. These help assess their performance and enable teachers to assist children do better.
New uniforms = Big smiles
School students were very excited to receive their new school uniforms. Importantly, these uniforms are stitched by the students themselves with support of senior students from the Sri PV Venkatesan center for the challenged. This exercise enables students to put their skill to use and enjoy pride of ownership. Other vocational skill trainings of horticulture, electrical work, charkha etc continued to be taken up.
Festivals & celebrations
Festive occasions of Independence Day, Teacher’s Day, Vinayaka Chaviti etc enabled students to showcase their talents and hone their personalities. On Independence day, the youngest students from the High School and Sri PV Venkatesan Center for the Challenged joined BCT Secretary Sri B Sri Ram Murty in hoisting the flag. This was followed by a cultural extravaganza by our very talented students.Sports competitions were held, and winners received prizes too.
Health camp
Bringing a wealth of knowledge and gifts were the various visitors to the school. Dr. Soubhagyalakshmi, Homeopathy doctor, conducted a health camp at school, where she assessed students’ health and distributed medicines.
Eminent visits
Sri Gopala Krishnan & team from Taj Hotel, Vizag (The Gateway) visited BCTs Sri P V V Center for the challenged and the Residential High School and celebrated Raksha Bandan. A team from Tata steel and Beekay steel, Paravada, visited too and donated 5 white boards and equipment to play games for children. Other distinguished visitors included Sri Ramakrishna & Sri Sivakumar, SIDBI & Mr. K V V Bhaskar, Manager SPC, Tata Steel.
Student visits
Various youth groups also visited the school premises. This included a team from Rubaroo, Hyderabad, who were enthralled by the learning process at school. The folk dance performances by school students won their hearts. Trainees from the BCT TMF SMART Centers in Visakhapatnam visited and interacted with the school students about their unique schooling system. Our alumni continue to be our success stories, as they visit and share about the various work/education they’re taking up.
Folk dance performances
Our students’ folk dance performances have won many hearts, and the high energy added life to the ‘Enterprising Bharat’ event held in Visakhapatnam. With dignitaries from across the country attending along with students, it was heartening to see the flawless and confident presentations by our school students.
Accolades in sports
This month we are extremely excited to share two little success stories. Mr. M. Rajubabu of Class 7 and Ms. U Varshini of Class 10, from our school were selected for district-level sports under the School Games Federation of India (SGFI). While Rajubabu got selected for Kho-kho Juniors, Varshini was selected for disc throw. We are happy to see them shine.
We want the streak of success stories to continue. However, as a large percentage of the fee continues to be borne by the school, and with the number of students enrolling on the rise, we need the support to continue honing the future of our next generation. We are thankful for your support and hope for your continued patronage.
Happy Dusshera, and may the good in each of us win.
