In Nepal, the fiscal year of school starts in the mid of April. Students get admitted in different schools as per their interest, accessibility, infrastructure as well as the quality of education provided in the school. Schools in Nepal are categorized as Government School (financially supported and managed by government of Nepal) and Private Boarding Schools (financially self sustained through charging higher fees for the educating students). The education systems in private boarding schools are preferred by most of the people as they adopt modern teaching methods and techniques. But, as the government schools are funded and managed by the government, the education system is poor comparatively to private boarding schools. The education at the government schools are provided for free. Hence, the parents who seek quality education for their children and could afford, send their children in private boarding schools.

Shree Minnath Lower Secondary School is one of the schools supported by the government of Nepal. Education to the students enrolled in this school is free, but, students need to purchase their books and stationary by themselves. Susma Bista (a girl) is studying at this school at grade eight. Unknown about her father, she has been raised by her mother with one younger brother and sister. Although talented among other students in the classroom, she was about to drop her school. But, with the scholarship support from ECCA in this fiscal year, she has rejoined the school and currently studying in the school. Her mother is very proud of her as she is the best student in her class.

The distribution of scholarship and educational support to students of different schools had reduced the dropout rate of students from schools. Students are provided the basic education, which is the basic necessity at the current stage. With the support of various donors from GlobalGiving as well as funds raised through various programs and events, we are trying our best to help the students like Susma Bista and others.

Hence, we would like to express our sincere thanks to all our donors, supporters, well-wishers and the GlobalGiving team for your continuous support in our initiation. We would also like to request you to disseminate the information of our program in your circle so as to raise funds and support the education of needy students. Scholarship Distribution on Teachers Day

On behalf of the scholar students who were supported through the scholarship for this fiscal year 2011/12, ECCA would like to express our sincere thanks to all our supporters, well-wisher and partners of GlobalGiving. The campaign - "Support-A-Child" still needs your support, encouragement and guidance for its smooth operation. For this, we hope that, our well-wishers and donors will continuously support us in the coming days ahead.

Fundraising to cover the cost for the operation of our campaign and keep our campaign ongoing had been a greater challenge for us. We have been exploring various ways and conducting different programs through which we could collect funds and keep the wheels of our campaign rolling. We continued our voyage to raise the fund during celebration of 24th Anniversary of our organization. On this day, we introduced different fun games through placing registration charge, which at the end of the day were contributed for the operation of campaign.

To raise more funds for the long term sustainability of the campaign, a big event on flee market - "Haat Bazaar" is under planning for the month of November. Approximately 1000 people are targeted to participate in the program and hoped for their direct contribution in the program.

On 15th July 2011, Teachers day is celebrated all over the nation in Nepal. This particular day, is celebrated through organizing various programs in school. As a celebration day, selected students in different schools were facilitated with the scholarship for the fiscal year 2011/12.

To ease the distribution of the scholarship and to reach the most vulnerable group who are in desperate need of the scholarship, a database of the students were also prepared with the help of volunteers. The database contains background information about the students as well as the schools where they are studying.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to all our donors for your continuous support in our initiation. We would also like to request you to disseminate the information of our project in your circle so as to raise some more funds so that we will be able to support the needy students in our country. We hope for your feedback, comments and suggestion regarding our project at ecca@mos.com.np so that we could implement our programs more effectively.

Khuturuke - A Pigy bank to support the campaign

Seasonal Greetings to all our supporters and well-wishers from ECCA, Nepal.

First of All, I would like to acknowledge all our donors, supporters and well-wishers of our program – “Support-A-Child Campaign” as well as GlobalGiving Team for continuous support for our program.

With the beginning of the school’s fiscal year, we have received numerous requests for scholarships from the students of different schools. As we had limited funds for providing the scholarships for the students, limited numbers of students were chosen to provide scholarships in this fiscal year. In order to raise funds, different programs and events were organized in a sequence. A regular program of documentaries was shown on different environmental issues and climate changes issues were presented in different schools and colleges so as to raise funds through charging a nominal amount of registration fees in the program.

Similarly, T-Shirt sales and Book sales were also initiated by volunteers to raise funds for the campaign. Khuturuki (A traditional money saving pot) has been distributed to individuals who wish to save some money for supporting the campaign. As the funds raised from the donors through GlobalGiving site were very limited, the amount was stored in the basket fund so as to utilize it once the amount will be enough to support for the students of at least one school.
