The six-month project will support 30 low-income single mothers. These 30 single mothers will receive entrepreneurial education & support on basic finance, digital marketing, sales for small businesses, individual mentoring sessions, and seed capital to help them start their businesses. In addition, their 45 teenage children will receive skills training in courses such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, human resources, sales, English lessons, basic programming, and more.
In Brazil, 11.3 million single mothers struggle with financial instability, with 45% working in informal jobs (1). Their children face limited education access, reducing job opportunities and perpetuating poverty. Women with children are half as likely to complete higher education, reinforcing how economic and educational barriers sustain vulnerability (2). In this context, entrepreneurship is an important path. (1) FGV (2) Datafolha, Brasil de Fato
The project tackles two key challenges at the same time: it supports single mothers in starting sustainable small businesses as entrepreneurs and the project prepares their teenage children for the job market with essential skills and training.
By fostering economic independence for mothers and enhancing employability for youth, the project helps break the cycle of poverty, strengthens family stability, and contributes to the community's economic growth.
