This project will provide psychological, social, and economic support, along with occupational therapy, to 218 Colombian children with cancer and their families. The SANAR NINOS CON CANCER Foundation will also address access barriers to health services and promote treatment adherence by offering tools to improve understanding and management of the disease.
In Colombia, childhood cancer ranks as the second leading cause of death among children. The healthcare system presents numerous administrative barriers, hindering prompt access to comprehensive care. These children belong to impoverished and vulnerable families facing significant economic limitations. Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the situation. SANAR's mission is to assist these children and their families, enabling them to adhere to treatment regimens and ultimately conquer.
The foundation will provide psychological counseling, educational programs and occupational therapy such as reading and art workshops, interactive sessions, and commemoration of special occasions. Additionally, economic aid will be offered for transportation, food, and lodging. The foundation will also assist with medication, monitoring, hygiene kits, and funeral expenses for families experiencing poverty and vulnerability. Furthermore, we offer guidance on their healthcare rights
The child and their family embark on the journey to healing with increased commitment, dedication, and empowerment, overcoming economic and social barriers to achieve the best possible outcome. Through a variety of therapeutic activities, the perception of the disease will be transformed: "Cancer may be limiting, but it does not diminish love, erode hope, undermine faith, compromise peace, erase memories, diminish courage, invade the soul, or silence the spirit
