Student Workshops & Capacity Building Initiative

By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader

Dear our beloved supporter,

We are pleased to report the successful implementation of student workshops and capacity-building sessions for 500 students aimed at supporting secondary school students in rural areas of Uganda to remain in school and complete their education. Thanks to the continued generosity of our donors, these sessions are equipping learners with the knowledge, motivation, and life skills needed to overcome challenges that often lead to school dropout.

Objectives

  • Encourage school retention among secondary school students
  • Build confidence, resilience, and life skills
  • Raise awareness on the importance of education and future opportunities
  • Support students in setting academic and personal goals

Key Activities

  • Student Workshops: Interactive sessions focused on personal development, goal setting, and decision-making
  • Mentorship Talks: Engagements with role models and facilitators who shared real-life experiences and guidance
  • Life Skills Training: Topics included self-discipline, time management, and peer pressure management
  • Career Guidance: Introduction to different career pathways and the value of completing education

Impact Achieved

  • Increased student motivation and commitment to stay in school
  • Improved confidence and self-awareness among participants
  • Greater understanding of the long-term benefits of education
  • Strengthened relationships between students, teachers, and mentors

Voices from the Students

One student shared how the workshops influenced their perspective:

“I was almost giving up on school because of challenges at home, but these sessions encouraged me to keep going. Now I have hope and clear goals for my future.”

— Secondary School Student

Challenges

  • Financial constraints affecting some students’ ability to stay in school
  • Limited time to reach all schools in need of such programs
  • Need for ongoing mentorship beyond one-time workshops

Next Steps

With continued support, we aim to:

  • Expand workshops to more schools and districts
  • Strengthen mentorship programs for continuous student support
  • Partner with schools to identify and support at-risk students
  • Provide additional resources to complement capacity-building efforts

Conclusion

These workshops are playing a critical role in keeping students in school and empowering them to believe in their potential. By investing in their growth and resilience, we are helping shape a generation that is better prepared for the future.

We are deeply grateful to our donors for making this initiative possible.

Together, we are keeping students in school and building brighter futures.
