Challenge

Super Typhoon Yagi is a record-breaking storm that has devastated communities across the Philippines, China, Vietnam, Thailand, and Myanmar. Extreme flooding has killed more than 200 people and displaced tens of thousands of people from their homes. The impacts of the storm in Vietnam have been particularly severe, causing the majority of deaths and injuries, leaving hundreds of people missing, and burying communities under mudslides.

Solution

All donations to this fund will support communities across the regions affected by Super Typhoon Yagi, with a priority focus on the most disadvantaged and overlooked communities. Initially, the fund will help first responders meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter. It will also support longer-term recovery efforts led by local, vetted organizations in impacted areas, particularly those working with low-income, historically underserved communities.

How Your Donation Will Be Used

When you donate to GlobalGiving's Super Typhoon Yagi Relief Fund, your donation will be used to:

  • Provide food, water, and emergency medical supplies to people and animals
  • Support temporary relief and emergency supplies for displaced families
  • Provide support to frontline workers
  • Meet other urgent needs that emerge

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
