By Ermelinda Pittelli | Project Leader
![]()
From July 3 to 10, 10 teen from 14 to 17 years old, took care of various green areas in the San Leonardo district of Parma (Italy). The young volunteers were accompanied by 2 leaders, older volunteers who have already had this experience in the past.
During the days, the volunteers alternated between moments of cleaning parks and workshops on global citizenship education.
They created an awareness campaign to promote among citizens the separate waste collection and cleanliness in green areas.
They accompanied a group of children aged 5 to 12 in cleaning a park.
They created a scarecrow using recycled materials.
They have designed and created pins that tell their experience of volunteering.
An extremely important experience for their personal growth, for the care of the environment, an example for other teens like them and for the community.
The results:
- 10 volunteers, 2 leaders, and 22 children involved
- 324 hours of volunteering
- 5 parks cleaned
- 57 kilograms of waste collected
- 3 workshops organized in collaboration with 4 associations.

By Ermelinda Pittelli | project leader

Dear friends,
Summer is coming, and since March we have opened registrations.
We are writing to ask you to help us offer young people with fewer opportunities a unique experience this summer: an IBO volunteer camp!
“An experience that changes your life”
This is how the boys and girls who participated describe it. Solidarity trips are a transformative experience, which, lived together with peers from all over the world, will lead young people to discover new places, new cultures and acquire new skills.
You return home different, after having participated in a solidarity trip.
Thanks to your help, a group of young people with fewer opportunities who live daily with social, economic, linguistic or geographical barriers will be able to participate together with peers from all over the world in one of the most extraordinary experiences of their lives! Don't wait, we are counting on your help!
THANK YOU!
Linda

10 good reasons to support our project

Dear supporters,
last summer our organization has made 20 Volunteering Camps in Italy out of 21 courses proposed and 3 in countries outside Europe out of 8 proposal.
The proposals have affected different age groups:
- 9 adult international camps in Italy, 3 of which supported by European Solidarity Corps program (Volunteering Teams);
- 1 family international camp in Italy;
- 9 teen camps in Italy (2 only for Italian people and 7 for international people), 3 of which GCE (Global Citizenship Education);
- 3 adult Italian camps in countries outside Europe (Madagascar and Peru). In addition to these proposals organized by IBO Italia, hundreds of camps with different type of activities were offered in Europe and in non-European country in collaboration with Alliance associations.
Volunteers with fewer economics and psychophysical opportunities in experiences on short-term: Adults: 1 French volunteer and 1 Belgian volunteer in Italy (Volunteering Team ESC); 3 Italian volunteers in Italy.
Last summer, 78 teens participated in Italy while in Europe 56 teens for a total of 134 teen volunteers. The nine Italian teen camps were accompanied by the presence of 2-3 camp leaders in each project for a total of 19 guys. Of 19 camp leaders managed more than one teens and adults camps.
Now we give you 10 good reasons to support our project, in the words of the volunteers who participated:
- "I lived formative, interesting and different days, which simultaneously allowed me to contribute to the reality ofSalus space and to meet many people, learn many things and experience a new context: I was very happy and grateful to have participated!!";
- "I really enjoyed meeting new people and establishing new friendships, but I would have liked more organizationin travel, in activities outside of volunteering and in the Sunday trip. I also often felt the lack of leadership insome of camp leaders";
- "It was a very nice experience to repeat next year. The camp helped me to interact and live with other foreign kids;
- The young volunteers were very respectful. We were all able to communicate with each other. We introducedeach other to our cultures and habits.
- The work wasn't super intense, so it was cool. The food was varied and good.
- The organization and activities were original and engaging. The camp leaders were truly present and available,helping us to establish a collaborative and altruistic relationship both with them and between the guys. It would be even more interesting to have a discussion with young people from abroad to further strengthen and make the use of the English language more fluent.
- Amazing community experience I plan to live every summer I can make it possible. Would recommend it toanyone who wants to break everyday patterns and experience life itself.
- It was a very intense experience, which put me in contact with various Italian and European realities.
- I had a very nice time in the camp. We had a lot of free time. And overall, making contact with other nationalities really improved my social skills.It was a great experience. I had great time with the other volunteers and i loved the people who hosted us. I liked that we had free time to travel and see the area.
- This was a unique experience for me.I felt uncomfortable because of the place where we stayed. But in general iam really glad to be part of this camp.I learnt how to work as a team and also I learnt communication is not just about speaking , gesture’s is really important as much as speaking. The experience and generosity offered tous by the locals has improved me in many ways.
Please, give to other young people the opportunity to participate in this experience. Continue to support this project!
Kind Regards,
from the IBO Italy staff
