Through this grant, over 1,500 students will see HE NAMED ME MALALA in cities across Japan, educating them about girls' education and gender issues around the globe.
In total more than 60 million girls are out of school today. There are many reasons girls do not continue their schooling, including poverty or traditions that do not value girls learning. Girls may drop out to marry, because of violence in or around school, or due to cost. Often there are simply no schools for girls to go to, even if they want to continue to learn.
Students from elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and universities in Japan will see HE NAMED ME MALALA and become educated about the issues girls around the world face as obstacles to their education.
Students will become change-makers in their communities, challenging gender biases that prevail globally and in Japan specifically.
