Expand Health Access to more commumities

By OGWAL JIMMY ODONGO DEAN | PROJECT LEADER

1. Introduction

Amazing Life Foundation (ALF) is a registered Community Based Organisation working in Jinja City, Uganda, with a focus on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender-based violence (GBV) prevention, maternal and child health, and youth and women's empowerment. Since 2018, ALF has implemented the Community Reproductive Health Strengthening project with support from GlobalGiving, delivering health education, GBV prevention outreach, and referral linkages to underserved communities.

This report covers the current funding round, which focuses on scaling up project activities to reach additional beneficiaries and extend services into new communities beyond ALF's existing outreach area.

2. Background and Rationale

Prior phases of the Community Reproductive Health Strengthening project established a working model of community health talks, peer education, and referral support within Jinja City. Demand for these services has grown beyond ALF's current coverage area, with requests from neighboring parishes and villages for the same level of support. Without expanded outreach, women, girls, and young people in these areas continue to lack access to accurate reproductive health information, GBV support pathways, and referral links to health facilities.

3. Objectives of This Round

  • Extend SRHR education and community health talks into new parishes/villages surrounding the current project area.
  • Train and equip additional peer educators and community volunteers to sustain outreach in new communities.
  • Establish referral linkages between newly reached communities and local health facilities.
  • Distribute outreach and IEC materials to support community-level awareness in expansion areas.
  • Community mobilization meetings with local leaders in target expansion areas.
  • SRHR and GBV prevention health talks in new communities.
  • Recruitment and training of additional peer educators/volunteers.
  • Distribution of referral cards and IEC materials to new participants.
  • Transport and logistics to reach communities beyond ALF's current operating radius.

6. Expected Results

  • Increased number of new beneficiaries reached with SRHR, GBV prevention, and maternal/child health information.
  • New communities brought into ALF's referral network for health services.
  • Strengthened peer education capacity through training of additional volunteers in expansion areas.
  • Stronger community-level engagement and buy-in from local leaders in newly reached areas.

7. Monitoring and Reporting

ALF will track outreach numbers, training participation, and referral linkages established during this round, with results to be documented in the next project report to GlobalGiving.

8. Conclusion

This funding round builds directly on the foundation of the Community Reproductive Health Strengthening project, extending its proven approach to communities that currently lack access. With this support, ALF aims to widen the reach of reproductive health education and GBV prevention services across Jinja City.
