The Florida Immigrant Coalition will deliver 100 hurricane survival kits with water, non-perishable food items, first aid kits, and power banks to 100 migrant families in Florida who can't access State disaster aid due to their immigration status. This leaves these migrant families extremely vulnerable to the destruction resulting from hurricanes which are a frequent natural disaster in Florida. With your help we can provide these critical resources to keep migrant families in Florida safe.
Many of our friends, family members, and neighbors who are migrants in the state of Florida are barred from receiving hurricane related State aid because they do not yet have an immigration status. As a result, they cannot access State run shelters or hurricane aid distribution. This project aims to deliver potentially life saving supplies to migrant households this hurricane season while raising awareness regarding their lack of access.
FLIC will provide hurricane survival kits to migrant families in Florida who do not yet have an immigration status to help them survive the next major hurricane. These kits will include power banks, water, non-perishable food items, battery powered hand cranked radio, extra batteries, hand sanitizer, tylenol, and candles, and more. We will also raise awareness through earned media and digital outreach on the gap in accessibility for these Floridians, and encourage inclusion and mutual aid.
These emergency supplies provide potentially life saving relief from serious crises that could cause lifelong financial, emotional, and physical harm to Floridians who do not yet have an immigration status. This project will hopefully raise awareness on the various limitations that some Floridians have to emergency resources, sometimes life saving support. It may lead to a more inclusive Florida in the future.
