Thank you for your support

Thank you for the previous donation you made to the Omega Research Foundation through GlobalGiving. We know there are lots of important causes for you to support right now, and we greatly appreciate all donations towards our work to protect human rights and prevent torture. Thank you for your commitment to our shared cause.

We used the money you donated to help us share our research about equipment used to commit human rights violations, including rubber bullets, handcuffs, electric shock weapons, and tear gas. Sharing this information will help activists more effectively lobby to control the trade and use of tools of torture and allow legal professionals to better evaluate the legality of use of force incidents. We also use our data to help journalists and human rights defenders more easily identify equipment used in torture, which can help survivors seek redress.

For example, earlier in the year, our research and expertise was vital in assisting Amnesty International UK to identify and expose electric shock torture equipment being promoted at an emergency services trade show in the UK. As we face new challenges, our work continues to be important; thank you for supporting us.

We are delighted to update you on the progress of our "Stop Torture" project as we near its conclusion. As you know, your support has helped us to launch our new website! We continue to add to and develop the resources we’re sharing on the site. If you have suggestions of what you’d like to see on the site, do get in touch.

The new website promises to be an important resource for journalists, researchers, and human rights defenders. We are always adding to the wide range of data and visualisations available online, including information on the types of equipment used by law enforcement to commit human rights abuses, insights into arms fairs and the companies that attend them, as well as information and case studies on the abusive use of law enforcement and security equipment around the world. In time, the new website will also provide a new mechanism for Omega to quickly and securely respond to specific requests for information from journalists and researchers.

Omega staff continue to research the manufacture, trade, and use of law enforcement and security equipment and we are always exploring how other aspects of our data can also be made more accessible.

Please see the GlobalGiving website, Omega’s own website, or get in touch with us (at info@omegaresearchfoundation.org) to learn more about our plans for the future. We will continue to share details of our progress through these short reports, but we’re always happy to answer any questions you may have.
