Summary

This emergency response project supports Uganda's efforts to prevent Ebola outbreaks along the borders with DR Congo and South Sudan. The project will provide PPE to frontline health workers, distribute disinfectants and handwashing supplies, and conduct community awareness campaigns on Ebola prevention, early reporting, and safe practices. Your support will help protect vulnerable families, tourists, strengthen local response systems, and save lives before the outbreak spreads further.

Challenge

Border communities along Uganda's borders with DR Congo and South Sudan remain highly vulnerable to Ebola outbreaks due to frequent cross-border movement, limited health resources, low public awareness, and inadequate protective equipment for frontline workers. Many rural health facilities lack PPE and disinfectants, increasing the risk of infections, fear, and loss of lives among vulnerable families and healthcare workers

Solution

This project addresses the risk of Ebola spread in border communities by strengthening prevention at both health facility and community level. It equips frontline health workers with PPE to reduce infection during patient care, provides disinfectants to improve hygiene and decontamination, and supports community awareness to promote early reporting, safe practices, and accurate information. This reduces transmission, protects health workers, and helps contain outbreaks quickly.

Long-Term Impact

This project will strengthen long-term Ebola preparedness in border communities by improving infection prevention, equipping health workers, and enhancing outbreak response capacity. Continued use of PPE, hygiene supplies, and community awareness will reduce transmission risks and promote early reporting. Over time, it will build resilient health systems, faster detection, and coordinated response, ultimately lowering Ebola-related deaths and limiting future outbreak impact.
