Stop Child Abuse and Bullying Project

Stop Child Abuse and Bullying Project

Summary

Our goal is to reduce child abuse and bullying from our communities. We provide a child-friendly questionnaire to reveal incidences of child abuse/neglect, bullying, mental health concerns both at school and at home. Our tool addresses a wider set of issues and can be answered anytime, anywhere. Question sets are age specific and best address their needs. Along with the tool, we develop educational programs to nurture diversity and inclusion for every mind of future global community members.

Challenge

In Japan, child abuse, neglect, and bullying are very difficult to get detected and suicide is Japan's leading cause of children's death. Monthly welfare questionnaires employed by schools lack protecting students' privacy and autonomy. Having an expertise in criminology with a keen interest in child protection, the project leader wants to create a platform where students would feel safe to report any issues they had, and be given some control as to who views their answers.

Solution

We work with schools to employ daily, weekly and monthly questionnaires in any combination by school's choice. The tool limits viewing options to only relevant personnel like vice principals, school nurses, or homeroom teachers (excluding teacher sensitive questions). SOS buttons allow students to contact the school nurse at any time, and once questionnaires are complete, no one can modify them. Along with tools, we customize diversity & inclusion educational programs to fit for each school.

Long-Term Impact

Simply, we hope to create a comprehensive platform using educational program and the tool that is successful in identifying issues that would have otherwise been left undetected by current methods in place. Through collaboration between us, schools and a variety of other stakeholders, we aim to help reduce the rate of child abuse/bullying issues, achieve zero of abuse/bullying-related deaths, and to help us realize friendly communities that understand the fundamentals of diversity and inclusion.
