STITCHING FUTURE : EMPOWERING 150 VULNERABLE WOMEN

"Stitching Future: Empowering 150 Vulnerable Women" is an impactful project aimed at providing vulnerable women with skills in stitching and tailoring to improve their livelihoods in Limbe, South west Region of Cameroon.

Project Progress Update

1. Training & Skill Development

   •  women trained so far  amount to 50 out of 150 women. These women  have completed stitching and tailoring training despite the challneges.

   • Duration and structure of the training  was 12-months vocational program covering basic and advanced stitching techniques"The training is on rolling bases and all round.

   • Partnerships with local trainers, quarter heads, Churches  and local authourities 

2. Economic Empowerment

   • Graduated teen mothers,   women from this training  have started earning small  income through stitching. About 35 women have begun selling handmade products, patterns created at home.

   •  One participant in the person of Ms Alimata  now runs a small tailoring business and supports her family").

3. Challenges Faced

4. Our training space is very small. We need a bigger working space. After consultation with the city Mayor of Limbe. It was not possible to have a training space at the city council. 

5. * We lack training  materials, Our resources or fund raised are not sufficient to purchase training material and other accessories to ease the process. It has been a very difficult and challenging project . Due to limited funds, we are unable to provide suffient training workshop, integrate over 200 applicants in our data base.

6. We have been facing challenges to recruit professional tailors to help in the training of the vulnerable ladies. The expected salary is over $300 a month including social insurance , taxation. We would be delighted to have volunteers or kind hearted people who can sponsor Trainers to ease training .
7. Communication; We have been facing expensive charges to run announcements on Radio, Newspapers, Social media content creators to be able to sensitize the youths and person in need to take advantage of the free training workshops.
8. Seed Capital has been an issue. It has not been easy to raised seed capital to purchase machines and other accessories  for the  graduates to be able to run their small productions at home for a start

   • Improvement in women’s confidence and social standing.

   • Support from local leaders or government bodies.

10. Next Steps

    • OR is Planing  to scale up "Expanding to 180 more women next year.

    • Fundraising or partnership needs (if ongoing support is required).
