The nursery school Wawacha operates in Cusco, providing protection, early stimulation, hygiene, health, food security and amusement for 40 children of single mothers of surrounding neighborhoods.
Aged between 2 and 4 years, most of these children live with their mothers only, abandoned by their fathers. The mothers leave very early in the morning, to do or ramble for precarious, low skilled and poorly paid day labours, and they don’t know to whom entrust the babies. Sometimes they must bring them on work, in unhealthy conditions, other times they're forced to abandon them at home alone, with all consequent risks. The nursery school Wawacha provides the temporary shelter for these babies.
Protection and global care of the children; early stimulation, to make the most of this age so fertile in terms of learning; contribution to their proper nutrition, guaranteeing them the necessary food even in case of shortage in their homes.
Providing to younger children early stimulation, complementary food and a healthy environment, Wawacha contributes to their long-term development, as the first years of life are decisive to set our physical and cognitive development’s frameworks.
