we believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to live a healthy, confident, and productive life regardless of their HIV status. Through our Sports Empowerment Initiative, we use sports as a powerful tool to improve the physical, mental, and social well-being of youth living with HIV.
Our program creates safe and inclusive spaces where young people participate in football, volleyball, netball, athletics, and other recreational activities. These activities promote physical fitness while helping participants build confidence, teamwork, leadership, and resilience.
Beyond sports, we integrate HIV awareness, treatment adherence education, life skills, mental health support, and peer mentorship into every session. Young people are encouraged to share experiences, support one another, and overcome stigma and discrimination within their communities.
The initiative also strengthens relationships between youth, healthcare providers, families, and community leaders, creating a supportive environment that encourages positive health-seeking behaviors and consistent adherence to antiretroviral therapy.
Key Achievements
Increased participation of youth living with HIV in community sports activities.
Improved self-esteem, confidence, and social inclusion among participants.
Enhanced awareness of HIV prevention, treatment adherence, and healthy living.
Reduced stigma through community engagement and inclusive sporting events.
Developed young peer leaders who inspire and mentor others living with HIV.
Looking Ahead
F SSIBU Mission Foundation – Uganda remains committed to expanding sports opportunities for vulnerable youth living with HIV. We aim to establish more community sports clubs, provide sports equipment, train volunteer coaches, and strengthen partnerships with health facilities, schools, and local leaders to reach more young people.
Through sports, we are not only building stronger bodies but also restoring hope, dignity, and brighter futures for youth living with HIV.
