By Melissa Alcantar | Crisis Response Coordinator
As we move into a new chapter at Fair Haven Rape Crisis Center, we want to extend our biggest THANK YOU to each donor who has supported our Human Trafficking Department over the years. While the department itself has recently transitioned into all of our service areas, our commitment to survivors of human trafficking remains as strong—and as urgent—as ever.
Your generosity has made a huge difference in moments when survivors needed support that our grants do not cover. Because of you, we were able to respond with flexibility, compassion, and dignity in situations where every small act meant safety, stability, and healing.
Your support has changed lives in powerful ways:
These examples are rare and personal, and they remind us that we never truly know what a survivor will need until they walk through our doors. That is why your continued support is so important. Even though our Human Trafficking Department has been integrated into the whole organization, our advocacy, services, and determination to meet every survivor’s unique needs have not gone away and never will!
We will continue to stand with survivors of human trafficking. We will continue training our community to recognize the signs. And with your partnership, we will continue showing up for every person who seeks safety and hope at Fair Haven.
We recently completed our annual T-shirt campaign in partnership with Griffith Police Department Social Services to raise awareness about human trafficking and remind the community that our commitment to this fight remains strong. Each January—Human Trafficking Prevention Month—we join with local law enforcement across Lake County to highlight the importance of recognizing and responding to trafficking. These shirts display the badges of every Lake County police department and not only do these shirts spark important conversations when people stop to ask questions, but they also visibly demonstrate the powerful collaboration between advocates and law enforcement working together to protect survivors and prevent trafficking in our community.
