It's been a busy summer here at Fair Haven RCC, with several exciting developments on the horizon, including the start of construction on our building. Also, our team has been handling a huge number of hospital calls and providing continued support through our crisis line, individual sessions, and support groups.
While we often highlight the many outlets of our work, we sometimes overlook the vital role that our support groups play in the lives of those we serve. I would like to take this opportunity to shine a spotlight on one group in particular that is deeply meaningful to our team: the Kimbrough Support Group at the Lake County Correctional Facility.
As part of our Anti-Trafficking work, we facilitate this group for women in the Kimbrough Work Release Program—non-violent offenders who are transitioning from incarceration to re-entry into society. These women are either serving out the remainder of their sentences in a work release program or are directly placed into the program when sentenced. Regardless of their path to this point, the women in this group demonstrate incredible resilience as they work hard toward a successful reentry into society.
This group holds a special place in our hearts, as it provides resources to women who need a strong support system to prepare for life beyond the program. Every session is filled with laughter, tears, and moments of growth. The topics we address are designed to help these women with essential tools for emotional and personal well-being:
These are just a few of the core subjects we cover, but each group goes deeper into these themes, ensuring that the ladies leave with insights they can apply to their lives. Since January 2025, we've been fortunate to have 28 women participate in this group, with some attending every week. We've logged over 93 service hours dedicated to supporting these individuals.
We are truly grateful for your continued support, which enables us to keep this impactful program. Not only do we facilitate this group, we are able to provide women’s hygiene products that the ladies may not have access to without us. The cuts in funding this year presented some uncertainty, but thanks to the generosity of you all, we’ve been able to adjust our resources to ensure that programs like this continue. Your contributions are SO IMPORTANT in making sure that these women receive the resources and care they deserve.
Together, we are making a meaningful difference in the lives of the women we serve.
