TeamIgual is Iguality's free, inclusive sports club in Barcelona, open to all levels. We recognise the strong connection between physical and mental health, and use street football, running, futsal, and hikes to build community and belonging. Sessions are free and open to anyone, including refugees, migrants, LGBTQ+ people, and others at risk of social exclusion, alongside the wider community. For many, sport is a first step toward wellbeing that doesn't require walking into a therapy room.
Isolation is one of the biggest barriers to wellbeing for people at risk of social exclusion. Migrants, refugees, LGBTQ people, and others facing displacement or discrimination often lack accessible ways to build community, especially outside formal support services. Many are reluctant to approach mental health care directly. Without low-barrier spaces to connect, people remain isolated, and the wellbeing benefits of belonging and physical activity stay out of reach for those who need them most.
Through TeamIgual, Iguality runs regular street football, running, futsal, and hiking sessions across Barcelona, in partnership with organisations like Street Soccer Barcelona. All sessions are free and open to all, with no membership required. This creates a welcoming, informal entry point for people who wouldn't otherwise approach mental health support, while fostering genuine community, physical wellbeing, and social belonging alongside our psychosocial support pillar.
By building a consistent, free sports community, Iguality helps people at risk of exclusion form lasting social connections and a genuine sense of belonging in Barcelona. Over time, this reduces isolation, builds resilience, and often becomes a bridge into Iguality's wider psychosocial support. As TeamIgual grows, more people access the proven wellbeing benefits of sport and community, regardless of income, status, or background.
