In December, our girls closed out the first term with an enthusiastic end of year celebration. They displayed their artistic talents by playing music and putting on a theater production, and you can see some of these activities in the below photos!
We are so proud of how hard they worked last semester and how well they did on their exams. Our devoted teachers are working closely with the girls who demonstrate a need for additional help. We arrange after-school homework assistance to make sure they are receiving the most rewarding education possible, and also provide one-on-one instruction.
After a break for the holidays, our 230 girls were happy to return to classes this year and to see all their friends.
A lot has been going on at Malaika during these first few weeks of the year. We are making tremendous progress on construction of our library, which will house both print and e-books on donated tablets and which will be the only library within the community. We are also in the process of installing solar panels at the School, which will reduce our dependence on unreliable electricity and on expensive generators. This will allow us to fully set up our computer room, stocked with 30 donated Chromebooks. We are excited that our girls will soon benefit from having these resources at their disposal, as it will provide them with a window to the world.
Rose is one of our Grade 4 students and she shared why the school is so important to her – Malaika has changed the way I dream. I used to have small ideas of what my life could be like, but now I want to travel the world and experience everything.
Thank you for your support. It is invaluable as we work together to improve the lives of these beautiful angels.
