Great news! Earlier this month our rescue team spent a week on Lake Volta and returned with 15 boys and girls, now free from modern slavery.
They arrived at the Challenging Heights Hovde House to cheers and smiles from all of the other children, which is always a joy to see. This process can be kind of confusing for them, but so many of the children say that when they saw all of the other happy children they knew they were in a safe place.
Since their arrival, the three girls and 12 boys have been settling into the dorms, getting medical check-ups and starting school. Soon, our trained staff will sit down with each child individually and screen them for PTSD. We've also begun to help them learn positive behaviours and coping mechanisms thorugh our behaviour chart and one-on-one support. All of this is part of the comprehensive care at the shelter.
You have given these incredible survivors all of that—the right start to their recovery.
