Summary

Help contribute to the operation of the #1 recovery shelter in Ghana. There are thousands of children, some as young as 4, are engaged in modern slavery on Ghana's Lake Volta. Upon being rescued, they are in need of physical and psychological care, which we provide at the Challenging Heights Hovde House. Running the shelter is one of our biggest expenditures and with a monthly sponsorship you can help us continue to provide high quality care to these survivors.

Challenge

There are 49,000 children, as young as 4 years old, working in the fishing industry on Lake Volta in Ghana, and more than half of them have been trafficked there. Challenging Heights aims to end child trafficking in Ghana's fishing industry, and one of the ways we do that is through rescuing children and providing them with high-quality rehabilitation care. The costs of running the Challenging Heights Hovde House, rated #1 in Ghana, add up quickly.

Solution

Monthly sponsorship of various expenses at the shelter help us to plan and budget more effectively. Knowing that we have the continuing funds to support the operation of the shelter every month will make it easier when we have unexpected expenses arise, such as hospital visits for the children or a referral from the police. Please be sure to click on the Donate Monthly tab to make your gift most effective.

Long-Term Impact

The Challenging Heights Hovde House is one stop on the children's path to recovery. The children stay an average of 6-9 months where they receive physical, psychological and emotional care. They begin schooling and eat nutritious meals. This solid start on their path to recovery has innumerable benefits, but can be shown in the success of other survivors in school and their apprenticeships.
