There are 49,000 children, as young as 4 years old, working in the fishing industry on Lake Volta in Ghana, and more than half of them have been trafficked there. Challenging Heights aims to end child trafficking in Ghana's fishing industry, and one of the ways we do that is through rescuing children and providing them with high-quality rehabilitation care. The Challenging Heights Hovde House is one stop on the children's path to recovery. The children stay an average of 6-9 months where they receive physical, psychological and emotional care. They begin schooling and eat nutritious meals. This solid start on their path to recovery has innumerable benefits, but can be shown in the success of other survivors in school and their apprenticeships.
